Basecamp – Keep it simple

I’m using Basecamp to manage the initial phase of a significant program of work that will deliver new websites, branding, content management processes and on-line services for distinct commercial divisions of a government body.
Basecamp is an on-line project management program developed by the very talented 37Signals team that is very simple to use, allows you to store files, and record time. It’s easy to add additional users and even clients (although not in this instance) access to share information and assign tasks.
BaseCamp’s interface is very clean, easy to navigate and flexible and has a typical Ruby-on-Rails feel to it. Items in ‘To-Do Lists’ can be reordered by dragging with the mouse and on the fly editing of content is very easy.
At the moment I’m using the free version as I think it will be sufficient
In this initial phase of the program there a lots of requirements gathering, analysis, agreeing whats to be delivered and setting target dates for presentation of plans. I’ve been able to give the project team members immediate access to the secure Basecamp site and assign high level tasks and set out miles stones. All members of the team will be able to see what needs to be achieved by what dates, comment and complete tasks and be automatically alerted when changes are made.
If only MS Project was such a pleasure to use….
